We'll the long blogging break is over -- With my Babson MBA in the bag and a few weeks to recover, I'm anxious to write for fun again. After completing a capstone (final) project, many on our team were anxious to move forward with the endeavor for which we wrote a business plan. My gut told me it was time to back away to discover where I really wanted to spend my time and startup energy (not to mention money).
Three criteria were critical:
- A sense of making the world a better place (something I could explain to my kids)
- Some sort of global contribution--I believe our generation has the resources and potential to lift most of the developing world out of poverty and desperation.
- An endeavor that excites me. Life is too short to toil simply for money and prestige. I want that same excitement I had as a fighter pilot working on talented, motivated teams chomping at the bit to plan, brief, execute and debrief missions--the inability to sleep in because you can't wait to get started for the day.
After explaining several ridiculous options to my wife (who happily listened, then told me I should keep thinking), I've narrowed my focus to energy independence through solar power. I'll explain why in another post.
For now, I'm happy to be blogging again. In addition to helping me clarify my thoughts, this should get Josh H-M to quit harassing me about my long break.
